Ok, now I officially have a demolition site. A safety fence has been placed across the front of the block and after two days work by the house raising company, and lots of noise, I have a number of holes in the lower walls of the house in preparation for the placement of steel beams for the lift.
We had a slight glitch on day one when the destruction of a dividing wall revealed that one of the old timber bearers had been installed at an angle to match up with the placement of an outside supporting post. The original post must have been placed on a Friday after a refreshing drink by the workmen it was so out of line. Ninety years down the track this had implications on the placement of a downstairs window and support for the front wall of the verandah.
Anyway after much head scratching and looking at the plans by the builder and house raiser they came up with the cheapest and easiest option which was to cut the new steel supporting beam into two pieces and add in an additional post.
Today is house raising day if all goes to plan.
It’s strange that the post had been put at an angle, but I’m glad that the builder and house raiser were able to come up with a solution. The demolition itself looks like it had gone pretty well. I hope that everything went well!, and that the house raising happened on time. Thanks for sharing!
